The Campaign for Better Transport has published a new report entitled: Pay-as-you-drive: the British public’s views on vehicle taxation reform.
The report reveals that 49% of people support replacing fuel duty and vehicle excise duty with a pay-as-you-drive scheme and less than 20% oppose the idea.
Responding to the report, CPT's Chief Executive Graham Vidler said:
"It’s great to see this new research showing how a well-designed and clearly communicated road pricing scheme could win public support. The issue with road pricing is ‘when’ not ‘if’ and we look forward to working with Government and other stakeholders to ensure that the design of any scheme encourages the use of public transport."
